AhlulBayt News Agency: The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced it had launched a missile barrage on Israeli military and logistical sites just moments before a ceasefire was set to take effect, calling the operation a “historic lesson” in response to Israeli strikes on Iran.
In a statement released Tuesday via Sepah News, the IRGC said 14 missiles targeted strategic locations across the occupied territories. The move came as retaliation for Israeli attacks the previous night that killed several Iranian citizens.
According to IRNA, the IRGC emphasized that the precision strikes were part of the 22nd wave of "Operation True Promise 3", which was initiated on June 13 in response to what Iran described as unprovoked Israeli aggression earlier that day.
This latest escalation followed Iran’s missile assault on a U.S. airbase in Qatar—an act of reprisal for Washington’s bombing of three key Iranian nuclear facilities on Sunday. U.S. President Donald Trump announced the ceasefire shortly afterward.
According to Iranian sources, Israel’s military campaign began with a series of targeted assassinations of senior Iranian military leaders and nuclear scientists, accompanied by missile attacks on residential areas in Tehran and other cities.
"Operation True Promise 3" follows two earlier rounds of Iranian military retaliation carried out in April and October 2024, including a response to the April 1st bombing of the Iranian embassy in Syria.
